What is a Camlock?

Camlocks are a kind of coupling used to quickly and easily connect and disconnect fittings on hoses or pipes. They are comprised of male and female parts which join together to form a tight seal for fluids, fuel, sand, pellets and other materials to safely pass through.

They are perfect for low-pressure situations to connect a hose to a tank or attach multiple hoses together. Cam connectors come in standardised sizes which means that couplings made by different manufacturers are guaranteed to be compatible.

Applications of Camlocks

Camlock couplings are used in many industries where the quick detachment of hoses is necessary. This includes:

  • Industrial cleaning – for joining water and air supply pipes to cleaning fixtures
  • Oil distribution – cam couplings are the standard hose connectors used to deliver petrol to gas stations as this method of connection is very safe
  • Agriculture – camlocks are generally resistant to corrosion and are ideal pipe connectors for use in pesticide spraying
  • Firefighting – camlocks are very widely used in firefighting as they enable quick changes to water supply hoses
